1How do I get certified copy ?

Certified copies are prepared and issued by the Copying Section as per the Rules of the High Court of Karnataka. You can apply and get online certified copies of Judgments. Uncertified copy of the judgments are available in this website.

2Is Legal Aid available for taking cases to the High Court?

In certain circumstances yes. Your legal professional will be able to advise on the process for seeking such aid the system for which is co-ordinated by the High Court Legal Services Committee functioning in the High Court Compound. The Committee makes available services of Lawyers for filing or defending a Case before the High Court to the following categories of people :- (a) Member of SC/ST. (b) Victims of trafficking in human beings or begar. (c) Women or children. (d)Differently abled persons. (e) Victims of mass disaster. (f) Industrial workmen. (g)Persons in custody in a protective home or in juvenile home or in a psychiatric hospital or nursing home. (h) Persons whose annual income is less than Rupees 100000/-. The High Court Legal Services Committee also operates a Legal Aid Clinic in the High Court on all days from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The public can avail free Legal advice from the High Court Advocates on various Legal questions concerning issues related to them. Legal aid Clinic is intended to be a place where common people can consult a lawyer for their law related problems. 3I don't know my case number how can I retrieve my case information?

Various search options are available through which case information can be retrieved.
Case information can be searched using the following:
i)Case Details (Case Type,Case Number & Case Year)
ii)Litigant Name(Petitioner/Respondent)
iii)Advocate Name
iv)Lower Court Details
v)FIR Details
vi)Hon'ble Judges of this High Court

4How can I view the Causelist of any Court or Advocate?

Causelist of any date can be veiwed and downloaded in PDF format from the "Causelist" section in this website.
Cause list can be viewed based on various option(s):
i) Search by Court Hall
ii) Search by Judge
iii) Search by Advocate
iv) Search by Case Number

5What are the timings for filing fresh cases and miscellaneous applications?

The filing counter is open from 10 am to 4 pm on all working days of the registry . Urgent petitions/applications to be listed for the next day must be filed before 12 noon, after which the Petitioner has to seek permission of the Court.

6Can I access court records online?

No

7Are hearings open to the public?

Yes

8During our visit to the Court, would it be possible to take pictures of various parts of the Court building?

No. Cameras and video recorders are strictly prohibited inside the court building.

9Do I have to appear in Court every time my case is listed?

The litigant, if represented by counsel (Advocate), need not appear every time his case is listed before this Court.
However, the concerned advocate must appear every time. In case the Court, by order, requires before it the personal appearance of any party, then it has to be complied with.

10What is Roster and where it is available?

Roster is the sitting arrangement of Hon'ble Judges in various Benches dealing with various categories of cases assigned to such Benches. Roster remains always available in this website.

11What are the working hours of Courts ?

The working hours of the Courts are from 10.05 A.M. to 05.15 P.M. with 1 hour break from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Courts also hold sittings on Saturday declared as working day in the Calendar of High Court.

12What is legal aid? How can one get access to it ?

Legal aid means legal services provided at the expenses of the Government. It is provided to the needy underprivileged, abandoned, persons in judicial custody, and the people from the financially weaker sections of the Society, to file and defend cases on their behalf in the various Courts/Forums. One can move an application before the State Legal Services/District Legal Service Authorities concerned, besides, the High Court Legal Services Committee. For such services, one can contact the Front Office located at each District Court Complex.

13 What is CIS?

CIS or Case Information System is specially designed application database software for the Indian Courts which enables the user to maintain the court records like orders, Judgments and preparation of Cause-list and other proceedings. It also supports online information for the citizen services.

14 Whether I can download Orders and Judgements from the website?

Yes, the website is designed such a way that anyone can easily search any valid case and can download the orders and judgements in .PDF format.
