Hon’ble Mr. Justice K.S. Hegde – Born on 11-06-1909, Educated at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore; Presidency College, Madras and Law College, Madras. Commenced practice at Karkala in 1935. Shifted to Mangalore in 1940. Appointed Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor in 1947. Elected as a Member of Rajya Sabha in 1952. Was a Member of the Indian Delegation to the United Nations in 1954. Started practice in the Madras High Court in 1954. Shifted to Bangalore in November 1956. Appointed as Judge of the High Court fon 26-08-1957. On 31.10.1966 appointed as the first Chief Justice of the newly formed High Court of Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. Elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court on 17-07-1967. Was the first Judge from Karnataka to be appointed to the Supreme Court. Was part of the Court that heard and decided the famous Keshavanand Bharathi case. His knowledge and ability are borne out by his various Judgements. Demitted office on 30-04-1973. Between July 1977 and January 1980 was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
